Commodore's Column
Dave Ewing, Cherette

Your Commodore is a little late with his comments this month as he has been celebrating his big birthday that ends in a big 0. I visited children and grandchildren in Philadelphia and Chicago and had a wonderful time. Now that that is over I can go back to being 49 again!! Some of you asked about my travails with my overheating boat ( well 2 did!) After replacing the complete raw water pump and some hoses that didn't look perfect, we again tried to start the engine, but nothing happened. So as I couldn't get a mechanic I asked Jeff, my friend, a former new boat guru. He cracked an injector tube and found water in the injector! So I cleaned out water from both the racor filter and the engine fuel filter, all the hoses and tubes, and pumped out the water in the bottom of the fuel tank. I got at least a quart of water! After bleeding the system the engine worked perfectly. Then I started to run clean water through the water system and thru the toilet and the holding tank started to come out the overflow hole. I am positive the tank was drained last fall, so what was going on? Both the fuel filler cap and the holding tank cap are together on the port side, the side in which all of last winters snow was sitting. My conclusion was that as the caps are original equipment, they must have leaked. The next job then is to replace the caps and of course the caps aren't made anymore so the hoses will have to be disconnected below and new assemblies will have to be installed. For now I put duct tape over the filler caps!

Anyway we will be ready for our first raft up of the season on Saturday the 15th. We will be there and hope to see some of you too!
Get out there on the water!

Thanks to Glenn Whaley for writing the articles for the land parties this winter. He does a fantastic job.

Mark your calendars for upcoming events - August 14 is the CSC picnic and business meeting at Belvedere Yacht Club in Arnold and September 25 is a party at Sailing Emporium.

Fleet Captain's Report

For the May 15 weekend at Harness Creek we've heard from Cherette, Evergreen and our guests Capt Queez. We hope more of you show up. For Memorial Day weekend starting on the 29th in the Magothy we have our first of two Cup Races for the year. We have had little response for our April call for the summer cruise. We may have to reschedule that trip.

A Good Time Was Had by All!

The CSC wrapped up its winter party season with a rousing raftup (sort of) at Squisitos on Saturday, April 10th. Being as it was still a little chilly-ish for the boats yet, we set (figurative) sail for one of our favorite haunts in Eastport and had thoroughly enjoyable time. SOPA (Navy-ese for Senior Officer Present Afloat) was Vice Commodore Liz Cingel, since Commodore Dave Ewing and Janet had to be up Philadelphia way that day and couldn't attend. But with Liz (and Frank) holding court, the crowd of 14 had a grand time. Those able to make it that evening were Frank and Judy Lyman, Gina Muha, Richard and Leslie Payne, Joe and Margie Powers, Fred and Irene Weinfeld, Glenn and Susan Whaley, and Sue's dad, Bob Adams.

Next up is real sailing. Restaurant meals are nice, but the ambiance of the Bay beats it all to pieces. Hope to see everybody on the water at our raftups - real ones this time!
